Monthly Lectures

All lecture meetings are held in Highworth Council Room, Gilberts Alley, just off the High Street, unless otherwise stated. Meetings start at 7.30pm.

Thursday 20th September 2012

The History Wardrobe will be commemorating the Titanic’s first and only voyage by inviting us back to April 1912 and taking us on a journey into Edwardian Society. Famous dress designer Lady Lucy Duff-Gordon will tell us of the events on that fateful night. Their unique presentation of historical costumes, documents and survivor testimonies will offer a fascinating glimpse into life on board Titanic... and the aftermath of the tragedy.

Library Displays

 

February 6th 2012 onwards

St James Bible. A community effort commemorating the 400th anniversary of the publication of the St James Bible. Parts of the bible have been copied out and decorated by the people of Highworth. Their efforts and the beautifully bound book of their original work is on display.

June 11th 2012 onwards

A display on William Joscely Arkell the eminent Jurassic geologist who was born in Highworth in 1904.
